Interpol South Africa congratulates Egypt and Namibia for securing two seats to serve on Interpol’s Executive Committee

Interpol South Africa led by the Deputy Minister of Police, Mr Cassel Mathale together with the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service(SAPS), General Fannie Masemola has welcomed and wished the two African delegates well on their election to serve on Interpol’s Executive Committee.

Major General Anne-Marie Nainda the Deputy Inspector General for Administration for the Namibian Police Force and Mr Alaa Mohamed Abdalah Ragab from Egypt are the newly elected delegates representing the African continent.

The announcement was made during the 90th Interpol General Assembly held in New Delhi, India.

The 13-member Executive Committee is the governing body in charge of supervising the execution of the General Assembly’s decisions and the administration and work of the General Secretariat.

The Executive Committee meets three times a year and sets organisational policy and direction pertaining to cross-border police cooperation with Interpol’s 195 member countries.

The Deputy Minister of Police, Mr Cassel Mathale says the election of two African delegates to serve on the body is a positive step towards strengthening and enhancing police cooperation for South Africa, the SADC region and the African Continent in combating transnational organized crime such as online child exploitation, kidnappings, drug trafficking, cybercrime as well as financial crimes.

“We are confident that these two delegates will make an impact going forward through the tools and services of Interpol to make the African Continent a safer place to live in it. We indeed look forward to working closely with the duo”, said Deputy Minister Mathale.

During the duration of the General Assembly, Interpol South Africa took part in several bilateral meetings with various countries in a bid to strengthen and promote increased cooperation in fighting transnational organised crime.
