NORTHERN CAPE – The Acting District Commissioner of ZF Mgcawu, Brigadier Johnny Besnaar commended Captain Koos Van Den Heever for the meticulous investigation that secured the sentencing of a rapist.

Velile Swartz was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in the Regional Court of Upington on Monday, 03 May 2021 for rape.

On 10 January 2017 at about 22:00, the 18-year-old victim was on her way home when she was attacked by Swartz. He pulled a knife on the victim, threatened her and dragged her to a nearby school premises where he raped her.
