Joint operation nabbed four suspects and recovered firearms and ammunition

Five suspects were arrested and a number of unlicensed firearms and ammunition recovered, during a well-coordinated Joint operation conducted by members of the South African Police Service in Tubatse outside Burgesfort last night at about 20:30.

The Visible Policing and Crime Prevention members where conducting stop and search operations at Bothashoek Cross road when they stopped a Toyota Corolla sedan carrying five occupants and searched it.

In the process, Police recovered, One AK 47 Rifle, three pistols and eleven rounds of ammunition, bolt cutter, balaclava and hand cloves.

The Preliminary Police investigations revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen at Lydenburg in the Mpumalanga Province last month.

The five suspects are aged between 22 and 43, and will on Monday the 10th February 2020, appear before the Praktiseer Magistrate Court on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen properties and possession of house breaking implements.

The recovered firearms and ammunition will still be subjected for further investigations to determine their origin and the possible involvement in other violent crimes.

The Police investigations are still continuing.
