K9 Bentley sniffs out firearm: Port Elizabeth

PORT ELIZABETH – Police dog ‘Bentley’ exhibited his competent skills when he expertly followed a scent which enabled his handler to locate a firearm hidden in a yard in Didtloft Street in Bloemendal.

It is alleged that on Saturday, 01 February 2020, at about 15:20, Anti-Gang Unit members received information of a firearm at the back of a house in Didtloft Street. Port Elizabeth K9 Unit, Flying Squad and Public Order Policing were immediately roped in to assist.

The house was searched and within minutes after searching the back yard, ‘Bentley’ located the firearm hidden inside a wall. The .38 revolver (no serial number) and 6 rounds of ammunition was retrieved by his handler, Sergeant Wallace Kettledas. No arrest was made and an enquiry docket was opened.

The firearm will be sent to ballistics for further analysis.
