Kimberley Visible Policing arrests four suspects for car hijacking

KIMBERLEY – Members attached to Kimberley Visible Policing, namely: Sgt Dikeledi Masiya, Constable Samuel van der Linde, Constable Portia Mpolokeng and Constable Marcelle Botes arrested four suspects (two males and females) at a house in Colville this morning, 20 January 2020 at approximately 02h30 for car- jacking.

It is alleged that the 54-year-old male complainant gave a female a lift and while stopping in Barkly Road where he dropped her off, he was approached by two unknown male persons who forced him out of his grey Polo VIVO at knifepoint and drove off with it.

The complainant alerted the police who immediately reacted and after the tracking device in the vehicle was activated, led the police to a house in Colville where the stolen vehicle was recovered.

Four suspects, 2 males aged 32 and 33 as well as two females aged 26 and 33 were found at the house in Colville where the stolen vehicle was located. It was also later discovered that the complainant’s firearm that was in the vehicle at the time of the incident was also recovered in the veld close to where the vehicle was recovered.

The four suspects were arrested and will soon appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s court on a charge of car-hijacking. The Acting Station Commander of Kimberley SAPS, Colonel Belinda Rikhotso commended the members for their swift reaction in locating the stolen vehicle as well as recovering the firearm. Their actions are squeezing the space for criminals to operate.
