KwaMashu murder suspect found with two unlicensed firearms

DURBAN – KwaMashu detectives conducted an operation in the early hours of this morning searching for a suspect involved in a murder committed last month.

The team proceeded to L Section in KwaMashu where the suspect was hiding. The 38-year-old suspect was found in possession of two unlicensed firearms with four rounds of ammunition. The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing. His arrest follows an incident that occurred on 28 February 2020 at 23:00, where 44-year-old Siyabonga Makhubu was shot and killed while on Bhejane Road in H Section.

A case of murder was opened at KwaMashu for further investigation. The suspect is expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court on Monday, 16 March 2020 on charges of murder as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

“Citizens should expect increased police activities in their neighbourhoods as we clamp down on criminals committing serious and violent crimes within the province. Efforts are underway to trace all wanted suspects and bring them to book,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula.
