The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is hosting a summit for Lawyers, Law Firms and Allied Legal Entities. The summit will discuss the role of law in post democratic South Africa towards economic freedom and the continued exclusion and marginalisation of black lawyers.
The EFF believes that as Africa and South Africa, in particular, navigates its course of economic freedom, the legal sector has to play a critical role in advocating and advancing the interest of a just society where all of humanity enjoys equal rights and benefits. The EFF also notes with disdain and disgust that young black legal professionals remain victims of apartheid practices and laws.
They do not enjoy support to progress and develop within the various legal specialities i.e. notary, conveyance, criminal law just to name a few. The struggles within the legal spectrum are not different from the general struggle of our people in communities like Marikana, Alexandra, Malamulele and Brits where people do not enjoy human rights. Our communities still endure illegal and forceful evictions from their land, unlawful arrests and the list goes on.
Lawyers, Law Firms, Allied Legal Entities and Senior Law Students across the country are invited to participate in seeking recourse to these challenges and build a strong legal fraternity to participate in delivering economic freedom in our lifetime.
Details of the Summit are as follows:
