Learner arrested for killing another learner

POLOKWANE – The Police in Mankweng outside Polokwane have arrested a 15-year-old learner for killing another learner, aged 16, during an incident which occurred today on 2019-05-21 at about 10h30, at a High school in the Ga-Mamabolo area.

It is alleged that the two learners had a fight while playing within the school premises and subsequently, the suspect produced a sharp instrument and stabbed the deceased before fleeing from the scene. The deceased was taken to the hospital for medical treatment but was certified dead on arrival.

The Police were notified and responded immediately and a manhunt for the suspect ensued until he was arrested at his hideout in the area. The preliminary investigations led the Police to a spot where the murder weapon was hidden on top of a small hill outside the village.

The suspect will appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has strongly condemned this incident and has called on all relevant stakeholders to assist in preventing acts of violence perpetrated within the schooling environments.
