One of the biggest hurdles for learners living in rural areas is access to information that will help them make informed career decisions.
The Department of Science and Technology (DST), in partnership with the North West University’s Science Centre and the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement, will host a career day in the Delareyville Community Hall, Tswaing Municipality, on 3 May 2019.
The event will be held under the theme “The role of space science and technology in the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, and aims to popularise space and other science, and educate learners and the public about its value.
It will also showcase local innovations to encourage learners to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation.
The event is expected to attract approximately 1 000 grade 9-12 learners. Eighteen regional and national exhibitors will display their products and initiatives and engage with the learners. Visitors will also be able to participate in science shows, maths puzzles, sky viewing and quizzes.
The DST’s Chief Director: Space Science and Technology, Mr Humbulani Mudau, will be joined by the Tswaing Municipality Mayor, Ms D Malwane, and NWU’sDeputy Dean: Community Engagement and Stakeholder Relations, Prof. Thebe Medupe.
