MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi has urged the community of Tsakane, Ekurhuleni to take care of local schools when utilising them.

Speaking at the official opening of the Tsakane Mega school, MEC Lesufi said the community should ensure after their tasks have been completed, they should leave the facilities in the manner in which they would want to find them the next time they them.

“You are free to use our facilities; these facilities belong to you. But please do not destroy them. By building this school we are sending a very strong message to poverty and homelessness, that our children will never be like us and wait for government to give them something, they will do things for themselves.

“Let us protect the school for generations to come. If we cannot get education right, we will not get the country right. If we cannot get education right, we cannot make the economy right. It starts here with the school,” said Lesufi.

The school has 28 classrooms and the department has recruited the best educators to teach the children so that they can prosper.

Local Councillor, Nomalanga Mnguni said: “It is a beautiful school and as parents we are proud and happy to have it.”

One of the members of the Education Portfolio Committee, Matome Chiloane pleaded with the Tsakane community to protect the new facilities. “Can we at least tomorrow wake up to the news that the school has not been broken into. This school is the future for your children, it belongs to you as the community. Own it”, said Chiloane.
