Life sentence for rape and assault in Nababeep

NORTHERN CAPE – The SA Police Service in the Northern Cape welcomes the sentencing that was handed down to a Nababeep man for rape, sexual assault and assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm (GBH). Willem Cloete (55) was recently sentenced to life imprisonment for rape, 10-years imprisonment for sexual assault and a further 2-years for assault GBH in the Springbok Regional Court. The sentences will run concurrently.

On 19 December 2017 at approximately 5pm the 11-year-old female victim was on her way to her aunt’s house, when she was stopped and lured by the known man. The accused promised to give her R100-00 and said he would accompany her to the aunt’s house, as he was also heading in that direction. When they reached the mountain close to Concordia he assaulted, strangled and raped her. The accused was arrested two days later and police opposed bail. He remained in custody up until his recent sentencing.
