Limpopo police continues with Safer School Campaigns

Limpopo police continue to participate in community development projects in eradication of crime through safer school campaigns. These initiatives are evident from numerous police stations engaging in these projects across the province.

It kick started with Lebowakgomo Crime Prevention and Social Crime Prevention Unit conducting a school search operation at Thagaetala Secondary School. Random searches to learners were fruitful resulting to 30 cellular phones, 01 sachet of dagga and a screw – driver confiscated by the police.

Afterwards, crime awareness campaign was conducted at the school. Capt Mashilo, the station communicator addressed the learners about consequences of carrying dangerous weapons, use of drugs, bullying, theft and discipline.

In another development, Witpoort Police led by visible policing commander Capt Rakobela also hosted safer school campaign at Mazwe High school at Lephalale, Ga Seleka village.

The school was visited by Lephalale Municipality counsellors, Rosina Mogotlane, Moloko Maeko, (SGB) school governing body representatives and circuit manager Mr Marakala.

The main purpose of the visit was to integrate with the learners and parents to work together with teachers and take education serious. It was crucial because last year, the matric pass rate was disastrous and it was intended not to happen again this year.

Secondly, sanitary towels were distributed to female students because it was discovered that during the cycle a large number of learners do not attend school. In addition scientific calculators were also handed out to grade 12 learners.

Lastly, It was reported that Medupi power station donated R7 million to renovate the school as it one of the oldest in the province.
