Limpopo Provincial Commissioner welcomes the 15 years jail sentence handed to a 54-year-old murder accused

POLOKWANE: The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the 15 years imprisonment sentence passed by the Polokwane High Court, against murder accused Mashango Samuel Mhuntane aged 54 on Thursday 30 June 2022.

Following court proceedings, the accused was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for murder.

On 02 June 2019 at about 16:00, the deceased was at Inveraan village in Senwabarwana, when he was attacked by a group of people who accused him of stealing their cattle in the previous years. He was severely injured, and taken to Helen Frantz Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police were informed, and a case of murder was opened and assigned to Detective Sergeant Maimele Phineas Magwele of Senwabarwana Investigating Unit for further investigations.

The suspect(s) were traced and a 54-year-old man was positively linked to the murder incident. He was arrested and kept in jail until his sentence.

“We warmly welcomes the sentence and we also applauds the investigating officer for ensuring that justice is served to the victim and his family,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
