Pretoria:Limpopo The Department of Tourism and the Limpopo Provincial Government are set to host the World Tourism Day celebrations in Limpopo on Sunday. The event will take place at Legend Golf and Safari Resort in the Waterberg District and will feature the theme 'Growing South Africa's Tourism Sector in the Digital Era.'
According to South African Government News Agency, the celebrations aim to highlight the transformative role of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in reshaping tourism. This includes improving visitor experiences, enhancing destination management, increasing operational efficiency, and promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism practices.
World Tourism Day is part of Tourism Month, which encourages South Africans to explore the nation's diverse tourism offerings and support local businesses. Hosting the event in the Waterberg District will showcase Limpopo's diverse tourism products and destinations beyond the traditional hotspots.
The formal program will feature government and tourism sector leaders, local artists, cultural groups, a digital tourism activation, and a Sustainability Village. The Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille, emphasized the importance of offering new experiences and places to keep both South Africans and international visitors engaged. Limpopo has been designated as the province of focus for Tourism Month 2026, showcasing its potential as a diverse and compelling destination.
