Love Your Street Campaign Gains Traction in Thembisa

Thembisa:Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni is leading a delegation of government officials, civil society organizations, and community members in the Love Your Street service delivery program in Thembisa, within the Ekurhuleni Municipality.

According to South African Government News Agency, this initiative marks the Minister’s second visit to the region in the last three weeks. The Ekurhuleni Municipality has recently been under the spotlight following the discovery of the bodies of several women. The Love Your Street campaign, originally launched in the Western Cape by The Presidency and the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) earlier this year, aims to foster community pride, active citizenship, and ensure clean and safe neighborhoods.

The campaign builds on previous initiatives like the Clean Cities and Towns campaign, introduced by Deputy President Paul Mashatile in 2025. It encourages partnerships between communities and municipalities to maintain cleanliness, tackle illegal dumping, and manage overgrown grass. It also focuses on transforming neglected parks and open spaces, which are identified as gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) hotspots, into safe community areas. This transformation includes raising awareness about GBVF, educating the community on reporting mechanisms, and providing information on available services.

Furthermore, the campaign supports the Presidential 1 Billion Trees Planting initiative, promoting environmental sustainability, greening, climate resilience, and community participation. Minister Ntshavheni is expected to engage in local park cleaning and tree planting activities as part of the campaign's efforts today.
