Madlanga Commission Granted Extended Reporting Deadline to Address Unfinished Work

Pretoria: President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended the reporting deadline of the Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference, and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, known as the Madlanga Commission. The Commission is now set to submit its final report on Monday, 16 November 2026, instead of the end of August.

According to South African Government News Agency, the extension granted by the President includes an evidence deadline of Friday, 2 October 2026, and a reporting deadline of Monday, 16 November 2026. This adjustment is intended to allow the Commission to complete investigations into topics that have emerged during its hearings thus far.

The Presidency explained in a statement that the extension enables the Commission to collect and hear evidence on all matters outlined in its terms of reference. Without this extension, the Commission would have been unable to finish significant portions of its work, potentially leaving critical inquiries incomplete.

The Commission was initially established to probe allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi on 6 July 2025. These allegations pertain to criminality, political interference, and corruption within the criminal justice system. To date, two interim reports have been submitted to President Ramaphosa.

President Ramaphosa has expressed his appreciation for the work conducted by the Commission and the diligence with which law enforcement agencies are pursuing testimony emerging from the Commission's hearings, as noted in the statement.
