Major arrest made by Macassar SAPS and Metro Police members

WESTERN CAPE – Splendid police work and follow up of vital information by Macassar SAPS and Metro Police members led to the arrest of a 42-year-old suspect on Friday, 06 March 2020 for the possession of illegal explosives.

Macassar SAPS and Metro Police K9 Unit members received a tip off regarding illegal firearms and possible hand grenades being stored at a premises in Nomsa Mpongwana Street, Macassar Village, Macassar. A search warrant was obtained and at the mentioned address, the Metro Police Explosive K9, positively indicated the location of the alleged explosives and SAPS Bomb Disposal Unit were called onto the scene.

On arrival of SAPS Bomb Disposal Unit they found two flares and an old rusty hand grenade, which was unstable and could not be transported. The hand grenade was immediately disposed of by the SAPS Bomb Disposal Unit members.

A 42-year-old male was arrested and detained. He is due to appear in the Strand Magistrates Court on Monday, 09 March 2020 on the mentioned charges.

The members were commended for effectively following up on the information thus preventing harm or loss of life.
