Man arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms that include pistols and rifles

GAUTENG- Police arrested a 50-year-old man after he was found in possession of unlicensed firearms, two pistols and two rifles, as well as ammunition in Boksburg North Ekurhuleni on Sunday 25 August 2019.

Police’s Ekurhuleni District Operational Team received information of a vehicle that was abandoned between Daveyton and Welbekend. Members responded and found the vehicle stripped. Ownership was verified and the police proceeded to the address. The wife had, in the meantime, reported her husband, daughter and grandson as missing at Boksburg-North SAPS. A search operation was conducted by the police. While the search was in progress, the husband called and informed the family that they were hijacked. The husband, daughter and grandson were then picked up and taken to the abandoned vehicle. The husband still had the keys in his possession after being searched. It is alleged that while at the scene, the husband admitted that they were not hijacked, but he stripped the car to sell parts and to obtain money for drugs. The husband’s room was searched and an unlicensed firearm and ammunition were found that belonged to the suspect. Police followed up further information and went to another house of the suspect at Impala Park. After searching the property police found another unlicensed 9mm pistol with rounds of ammunition as well as two rifles and ammunition.

The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
