KING WILLIAM’S TOWN – The increased and intense evening police patrols in strategic areas in Kamesh led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man in possession of an unlicensed firearm last night.
On Friday, 09 August 2019 around 23:00, police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties in Acacia Street, Kamesh (Uitenhage), and requested to search a man that was walking on the street. In possession of the man, police found an unlicensed firearm without ammunition and arrested him. The suspect is due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 August 2019 on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm. A preliminary investigation has revealed that the firearm was stolen in Walmer, Port Elizabeth seven months ago.
Uitenhage Acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll applauded the members from Visible Policing for the good work. The detectives are currently profiling him (suspect), and the seized firearm is going to be sent to the laboratory for ballistic analysis. Police would like to inform Kamesh residents that there are going to be intense and random stop and search operations in the area so as to curb incidents of random shootings, added Brig Koll.
