Man sentenced for raping a minor

FREE STATE – A 30-year-old man from Tumahole in Parys was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment by Parys Regional Court for the rape of a 5-year-old girl.

On 11 April 2019, the girl was playing with her friends in Lusaka location in Tumahole. Her mother and uncle became worried when it was dark outside and she was not back and went to look for her with the assistance of the community.

At around 17:55, they went to the accused’s home which is on the same street and caught him raping the victim in the backroom and took him to the police station.

He has been in custody since his arrest until he was sentenced on 29 March 2021.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane applauded the sterling work by the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Pule Modisenyane of Tumahole FCS unit in ensuring that the accused is permanently removed from society.
