CENTANE – The Centane Regional Magistrate’s Court convicted and sentenced a 49-year-old man to undergo 10 years’ imprisonment for the rape of his 18-year-old niece. The accused was sentenced on Tuesday, 12 July 2022.
According to information, the victim was attending a family ceremony at Teko Springs Village, Centane on 09 February 2020 when she was raped. The victim told her mother who advised her to report the matter to the police.
A case of rape was registered at Centane Police Station. The case was handed over to Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS). The accused person was arrested and charged for rape.
Acting Amathole District Commissioner Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu welcomed the sentence and applauded the Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for the sterling work they displayed in ensuring that justice prevailed.
