Man sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for rape

KING WILLIAM’S TOWN: Tsomo Regional Magistrate’s Court sentenced 22-year-old man Zimvo Bunga to undergo thirty (30) years imprisonment after he was convicted of raping a 22-year-old woman. The accused was sentenced on Thursday, 14 February 2019 at Tsomo Regional Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that the victim was sleeping alone at her home at Mngcangcathelweni Locality, Nomaheya Viilage, Ngqamakhwe on 06 October 2018 at about 19h00. Two men went to the homestead of the victim and forced the door open and raped the victim.

A case of rape was opened at Ngqamakhwe Police Station. Zimvo Bunga traced and arrested. After being released on bail the other accused left for Cape Town and police are still on a manhunt for him. This resulted in the trials being separated. The case was handed over to Butterworth Family Violence and Child Protection Unit (FCS) for investigation.

Acting Butterworth Cluster Commander, Colonel Ncedo Ngwendze welcomed the sentence. He hoped that the stiff sentence will serve as deterrence to other would be offenders. The Cluster Commander, Colonel Ngwendze praised the investigating officer his sterling investigation that resulted in securing a harsh sentence.
