Man sought for murder of his ex-girlfriend

Police are looking for a 35-year-old man in connection with a murder that occurred at Elukwatini. Reports indicate that on Thursday, 26 December 2019 a 25-year-old woman, Laurencia Zinhle Mathebula was walking with her cousin when they were approached by her ex-boyfriend.

According to police information, the cousin left the two to have a private conversation and moments later heard gunshots. The cousin went to investigate and found she had been shot multiple times and immediately alerted the police but the suspect was found to have absconded the scene in his white bakkie.

Police rushed to the scene and found the lifeless body of the victim lying on the ground with multiple gun-shot wounds in various parts of her body. Medical personnel were summoned to the scene where the victim was certified dead.

Police immediately commenced with their investigation and a manhunt for the suspect has ensued.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, has strongly condemned this horrendous act. “I am very concerned about these incidents where women are killed by their partners or ex partners. This has become a norm that when a woman ends a relationship, then it seems as if she has ordered to be killed. We cannot allow such acts of violence to prevail. This suspect must be hunted, arrested, and brought before court to face the full might of the law” said General Zuma.

The police appeal to the community to assist with information that could lead to the whereabouts of the suspect by calling Detective Sergeant Mancoba Gordon Mahlangu on 0726264957. Members of the public can also call Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Alternatively the public can download MYSAPS App to anonymously send valuable information to police.
