Manhunt launched for alleged killers of a taxi owner

POLOKWANE – The Police in Sekhukhune outside Burgersfort are investigating the murder of a local taxi owner aged 64, who was allegedly gunned down at his home in Ga-Rantho village during early hours of today, 18 March at about 01:40.

It is alleged that the deceased, identified as Nkwatle Salthiel Tau, was asleep with his wife when an unknown assailant broke the bedroom’s window and fired several shots through it .The suspect immediately fled the scene. The deceased’s wife escaped unharmed.

Upon closer inspection by the family, it was discovered that the deceased was shot. Police and medical emergency services immediately attended to the incident after they were notified. The deceased was then certified dead on the scene.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has condemned the incident and further instructed that the perpetrators be hunted down and brought to book.

The motive for the killing is still not clear at this stage but taxi violence cannot be ruled out. Police investigations are underway and no arrest yet.
