Tonight, Wednesday 5 July 2017, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, will officially award accreditation to twenty Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) structures from the Cape Town Metro area, in Kraaifontein

The 20 NHWs will add to the 73 NHW structures already accredited across the province since the start of the accreditation process last year and forms part of at least another 35 NHW structures to be accredited in July 2017.

All the NHWs will receive their accreditation certificate and a Starter Kit, containing reflective vests, torches, safety whistles, first aid kits, fire extinguisher, strobe lights and magnetic decals for vehicles, stickers and a lockable container.

The communities which these Neighbourhood Watches will serve include Somerset West, Sanddrift, Rylands, Wynberg, Surrey Estate, Sheradon Park, Tygerhof, Helderzicht, Monte Vista, Table View, Constantia, Highlands Village, Parow Valley, Rosebank and Wesbank.

The new accredited NHW will also be eligible for additional training provided by the Department of Community Safety or our safety partners, on top of the basic NHW training and first aid training they are receiving already.

On Monday evening, 3 July 2017, the Department of Community Safety accredited 11 Neighbourhood Watches outside the Cape Town Metro, including Paarl (Bloomsbury, Hillside Outreach, Mbekweni), Drakenstein (Drakenstein Farm Watch), Kleinmond (Rooi Els), Somerset West (La-Wingerd-Links), Franschhoek (Franschhoek South, Langrug Informal Settlement, Wemmershoek) and Stellenbosch (Cloetesville Weltevrede 2).

Minister Plato will welcome the accredited Neighbourhood Watches as a dedicated safety partner to the community, municipality and provincial government.
