POLOKWANE – The MEC for Transport and Community Safety the Hon. Namane Dickson Masemola accompanied by the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba led a Crime Awareness Campaign and the launch of Community Street Committees today, 30 July 2019, at Senwabarwana Policing area under the SAPS Seshego Cluster in the Blouberg Local Municipality.

In attendance, was the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for Policing Major General Jan Scheepers, the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for HRM Major General Christine Moralakadi, the SAPS Seshego Cluster Commander Major General Sam Mokgonyana, the SAPS Senwabarwana Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mongalo, the HOD Nchabeng Tsebe, the Chief Director of Crime Prevention and Community Police Relations Mr Rowland Stander, the Mayor of Blouberg Local Municipality Cllr S Pheedi and his Management team, the Community Police Forum, the Community Safety Forum, the Traditional Authorities and several other Government Departments and community structures.

The program is part of the crime prevention initiatives of the Department. Part of the focus is also to ensure a reinvigorated fight against crime committed on vulnerable groups such as women, children, people living with disabilities and the elderly.

The main event was held at Senwabarwana Show ground where a variety of activities unfolded.

Messages of support were given by the Community Safety Forum, the Community Police Forum, the Local Municipality and the Tribal Authority.

In his special message of support, the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has emphasized on strengthening partnership policing across the Province. He further warned all the potential criminals out there that the recently launched crime fighting machinery, “Operation Swara Tsotsi” is on their heels including the implementation of Criminal Matters Amendment Act 18 of 2015, which came into effect in June 2019.

The MEC, Namane Dickson Masemola, in his address, encouraged members of the community to work closely with the Police at all times with the sole aim of eradicating any form of criminality in and around their respective places. He further commended the Blouberg Local Municipality and the Greater Tzaneen Municipality on taking a lead in the implementation and the roll out of this project. He assured the citizens of Limpopo that he is committed in visiting all the remaining Municipalities, to launch the project and ensure that Limpopo reclaims its status of being a peaceful Province.

In closing the event, the MEC accompanied by the Provincial Commissioner, the Mayor and the local Chief handed over to the street patrollers the Reflector jackets and whistles for the effective operationalization of the project.
