MEC Hlophe hands over sports kit to mark the start of the academic year

Gauteng Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC Mbali Hlophe, visited Kgoro YaThuto Secondary School in Heidelberg on Wednesday 15 January 2020 as part of the Gauteng Back to School Campaign.

Today we visit Kgoro ya Thuto Secondary School in Ratanda to mark the start of the 2020 academic year by overseeing the first day’s proceedings and providing learners with Learning and Teaching Support Material.

“Academic learning and sports education complement each other. We are excited as the department as we will be reviving the school sports league this year. We need to consciously invest in school sport to increase the pipeline of our sporting codes”, said MEC Hlophe.

During the visit, MEC Hlophe handed over a mobile library, soccer, netball, volleyball kits and Indigenous Games material.

“Sports education not only teaches learners to maintain physical stamina, but also the habit of obedience, discipline, the determination to win and willpower.
