MEC Mosupye urges learners to start working hard straightway

Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development, Morakane Mosupyoe, has urged learners and teachers at the Ithuteng Secondary School, Randfontein to study hard to ensure improved results in the 2020 academic year.

The MEC’s visit to the school forms part of the Gauteng Back to School campaign.

“You need to start working hard immediately and sacrifice a lot of things to obtain better results at the end of the year said MEC Mosupyoe.

The school received a 67.9% pass rate in the 2019 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams – a drop of 9% compared to 2018.

MEC Mosupye urged learners, teachers, parents and other stakeholders to work together to improve the school’s performance.

Preliminary findings show that learners bunk class and many fail to attend the government offered Seconday School Improvement Programme (SSIP).

The SSIP model teaches students how to approach and answer exam questions in ten key subject areas. The programme provides additional study and teaching time to bridge testing gaps for students.
