MEC Weziwe Tikana welcomes new Provincial Commissioner

Eastern Cape new Provincial Commissioner, Major General Liziwe Ntsinga is assuming her duty as a provincial commissioner today, 1 August 2016, which will end after a term of five years as prescribed by the South African constitution.

Her appointment to this position follows after the previous Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Celiwe Binta’s term at the helm of this organisation officially came to an end yesterday, 31 July 2016.

Major General Ntsinga is no stranger to the province as she was born at Matyhantya village in Lady Free and grew up in small a town called Maclear.

She is a senior police with vast experience, relevant education and training for the various roles she has played within the South African Police Service for 30 years of which 23 years she has served as a detective.

She has grown within the ranks of SAPS to her current position through hard work, dedication and extra commitment to every task and managerial responsibility entrusted on her shoulders. She began her career in 1985 as a student constable and quickly joined the detective environment until March 2010 when she promoted from a brigadier to a Major General.

She has vast experience in the investigation of gender based violence crimes and organised crime. Her knowledge, skills and vast experience has resulted in her being appointed as the Freestate Provincial Head: Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation as well as in the Northern Cape at once. Maj Gen LE Ntshinga is also the National Champion of Trafficking in Persons within the Directorate for Priority Crime investigation.

She is also actively involved in Women Network activities. She was a Women’s network champion for the Division Detective Services and Women’s Network Champion for the Northern Cape Province where she adopted an old age home as a sustainable project.

Major General Ntshinga has displayed a high level of discipline and integrity who is a well-respected law enforcement officer nationally and internationally. She has raised the flag of South African Police Service to the highest level whenever she is given the opportunity. Due to her diligent and dedication to her work she was appointed to take over Free State Province as well in addition to Northern Cape. She is the first person to two serve two provinces at once.

Today, Major General Ntshinga assumes the role of Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, a role she is expected to hold for the next five years, until 2021.
