CAPE TOWN – Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele on Tuesday afternoon, 10 March 2020, learnt with shock of the killing of a senior investigator attached to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).

It is reported that the incident happened in the early hours of yesterday morning at De Ruxia, a smallholding outside of Cullinan, east of Pretoria where approximately five suspects allegedly stormed the place and fatally shot the deceased, senior investigator Mandla Mahlangu, aged 47.

Minister Cele has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased investigator, as well as to the management and colleagues who were working closely with Mahlangu.

“At this early stage of the investigation by the Gauteng Provincial Investigating Unit, it is important to allow police the space to investigate thoroughly, the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident,” cited Minister Cele, encouraging the investigating team to leave no stone unturned in their effort to find the perpetrators and bring them to book.
