NORTHERN CAPE – On Sunday, 08 March 2020 at approximately 17:15, members of Kathu Crime Prevention unit, namely Sgt Ben Eiman, Constables Blyke Jantjies, Beatrice Canchibato and Juanre Bean followed up on information received relating to housebreaking cases where two premises were allegedly broken into in Bestwood in Kathu.

Upon arrival at the mentioned addresses, the members searched the premises and Sgt Eiman found a firearm hidden in the braai vent.

After testing the firearm it was discovered that it was reported stolen during a housebreaking case in Kathu in July 2019. Upon further searching the premises, the members found the following suspected stolen property including five(5) power drills, three (3) toolboxes with tools, one(1) rim and tyre and four(4) hair clippers with an estimated value of R100 000-00.

On Monday, 09 March 2020 at approximately 02:00 the same members responded to information regarding a housebreaking at Sand Salie Crescent in Bestwood in Kathu. While conducting stop and search actions, the members searched a suspicious male person who was found in possession of a laptop as well as a bank card, a Police wrist watch, a Samsung Galaxy Gear watch, Hyuandai car keys and various other items for which he could not account for. The total value of the suspected stolen property amounted to R15 000.

The 29 year old male suspect was arrested for Possession of suspected stolen property and appeared in the Kathu Magistrate’s court.

On 09 March 2020, Sgt Ben Eiman again followed up on information regarding the location of stolen property that was recently stolen. The suspected stolen property was recovered and positively identified by the complainant. A 44 year old male suspect was apprehended and arrested by Sgt Eiman at approximately 23h30 and charged for Possession of suspected stolen property. The value of the recovered property amounted to R7000- 00.

The members continued their duties on 10 March 2020 when Sgt Eiman and Const Jantjies arrested and detained two 28 year male suspects for assault GBH. The two suspects will soon appear in the Kathu Magistrates’ court on charges of Assault GBH.

The John Taola Gaetsewe Cluster Commander, Major General Johan Bean applauded the members for their determination and commitment in apprehending the criminals and squeezing their space to operate.
