Men, women in blue honoured

Pretoria – Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane on Friday preceded over a medal parade in Limpopo where over 100 men and women in blue were honoured.

The medal parade is held to honour and appreciate loyal and long serving members of the South African Police Service throughout the province.

The ceremony, which was held at Seshego stadium in Polokwane, honoured 161 men and women who have put their lives on the line, serving South Africans for 10, 20, 30 and even 40 years.

Today’s event symbolises our appreciation for all the work you have put in serving and protecting citizens of this country. You are an inspiration to the young generation and should always be proud of that. It is these medals that must inspire you to stick to our Back-to-Basics approach in policing which is now entrenched within each and every policing environment, said Phahlane.

At the ceremony, the Acting Police Commissioner handed over the Sword-of-Command to the Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba.

The handing over of the Sword-Of-Command is an honour bestowed upon a commanding officer to lead by example and contribute towards ensuring the eradication of crime, he said.

Phahlane urged Lieutenant General Ledwaba to lead by example to ensure the eradication of crime in the Limpopo province.

He further appealed to all community leaders, religious leaders as well as community members to take their rightful position in ensuring that they work together with members of the South African Police Service with a view to prevent and combat crime.
