The Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, congratulates and welcomes Mr Thokozani Magwaza, Acting Director-General of the Department Social Development, on his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).

Mr Magwaza’s appointment as CEO of SASSA was officially confirmed by Cabinet yesterday. He joined the Department of Social Development in 2013 as Deputy Director-General: Comprehensive Social Security responsible for among others; overseeing the completion of Social Assistance policies which include the creation of a comprehensive social security system for South Africa.

In April 2015; he was appointed as the Acting Director General of the the Department of Social Development.

Prior to joining the Department, he served in various leadership positions including as Executive Director at Isimilo Projects, CEO for Sechaba Medical Solutions, Acting CEO at Road Accident Fund (RAF), CEO Special Pensions, Director Operations for GEPF and Administrative Manager for Old Mutual.

Mr Magwaza holds a Masters Degree in Politics & Political Economy from the University of Port Elizabeth. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public administration from the University of Zululand and has a certificate in Advanced Business management from the University of Johannesburg. He attended the Executive Development Programme at the Wits Business School, University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and wish Mr Magwaza on his appointment as the new CEO of SASSA. We are confident that he will continue contributing positively to the Social Development family,” said Minister Dlamini.
