Minister Naledi Pandor briefs media on budget for 2017/18 financial year

Minister Pandor outlines the Department of Science and Technology’s plans to spend the R7.5 billion budget for 2017/18 financial year

The Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, will on Tuesday, 16 May, brief the media on her department’s plans to spend its R7.5 billion for this 2017/18 financial year.

The briefing will take place in Parliament at the Imbizo Media Centre, Ground Floor, 120 Plein Street, prior to the Minister’s Budget Vote debate which will take place in the National Assembly at 14h00.

The theme for the Department’s budget vote this year is The Oliver Tambo legacy: Positioning the national system of innovation for the future.

The theme is line with the celebration of the late liberation struggle hero, Oliver Tambo’s life who would have turned 100 years old this year and who before leading the liberation movement, was a maths and science teacher in Johannesburg.

On the sidelines of the budget vote, the DST will open to the public an impressive exhibition at Iziko Museum to demonstrate the value of scientific innovation to society, with special focus on grassroots innovations.
