Minister Nzimande to Launch Inaugural National Science Month

Sebokeng: Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Professor Blade Nzimande, will officially launch the inaugural 2026 National Science Month (NSM) today. 'National Science Month replaces Department of Science, Technology and Innovation's traditional National Science Week as South Africa's premier science engagement programme. It is designed to showcase the critical role of science, technology and innovation in addressing the day-to-day needs of citizens and advancing South Africa's socio-economic transformation,' the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) said ahead of Saturday's launch.

According to South African Government News Agency, Nzimande will launch the NSM month-long national programme under the theme 'Science, technology and innovation are for everyone,' at the Vaal University of Technology, Sebokeng Campus. National Science Month is also intended to support the DSTI's efforts to increase public understanding of the everyday value of science and to encourage more young people to study science and pursue careers as scientists, researchers and innovators.

'Throughout July, National Science Month will feature interactive community science engagements, expert dialogues, public lectures, learner exhibitions and science tours,' said the DSTI. At the launch, the Minister will outline the month's calendar, key deliverables and expected outcomes.
