Minister of Sport Announces Competition for Fans to Win Trip to 2026 World Cup

Pretoria: The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has made an exciting announcement for soccer superfans, calling on them to enter a competition that offers an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In a media briefing held in Pretoria, the Minister detailed the opportunity for one lucky fan from each Premier Soccer League team to attend the prestigious tournament in Mexico. The comprehensive sponsorship includes flights, accommodation, ground transport, and daily allowances, with two major companies backing the initiative. The department will also assist with visa facilitation and match ticket allocation.

According to South African Government News Agency, the selection process will be managed by a panel of esteemed figures from South African sport and entertainment. Robert Marawa, Andile Ncube, and Vino Snap have already been confirmed as judges, with more members to be announced. Entry into the competition requires participants to submit a 30-second video clip explaining why they are the biggest supporter of their club. The competition rules will be publicly shared, and the judges will make the final decision.

The Minister urged media outlets to disseminate the competition details widely to ensure every qualifying South African has the opportunity to be their club's "Lucky Fan." McKenzie emphasized that the World Cup is more than a football event, describing it as a cultural moment. This initiative coincides with Bafana Bafana's qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a triumphant 3-0 victory over Rwanda, marking South Africa's return to the global tournament since 2002.

In addition to the competition, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture plans to honor iconic South African music groups Mafikizolo and Mi Casa on the World Cup stage for their significant contributions to the music industry. Mafikizolo will celebrate 30 years in the industry, while Mi Casa marks their 15-year milestone. The Minister highlighted their impact, stating that these groups represent the soundtrack of modern South Africa, not just background music.

Furthermore, artists have been encouraged to compose an official World Cup song, which will be featured during Bafana Bafana's send-off at the Union Buildings and broadcasted across national radio stations. More details regarding the competition will be released soon.
