More Kenyan Students Prefer Dubai for It Studies

An increasing number of students who are seeking university education are choosing Dubai as their destination of choice for higher education, according to findings from higher education fairs.
Priscilla Kerebi, marketing manager of Express Communications, has observed that visitors to the higher education fairs are increasingly choosing the United Arab Emirates to study courses in information technology and graphics design, because the courses are offered by UK universities that have campuses in Dubai and the Middle East region.
Kerebi said that the growing interest in the promotion of UK-Dubai based institutions is helping capture the student market from Africa who are seeking an international education, but do not want to travel too far from home.
“Parents want convenience for their college-going children, and when it comes to an international education, Dubai has affordable tuition rates and it is also not far from home,” she said in an interview at the just concluded higher education expo.
Kenya is also a very popular option for higher education as more universities are now opening campuses in counties, making education easily accessible without the need to travel to Nairobi.
The three-day fair which was held at Sarit Centre in Nairobi featured exhibitions by local universities, middle level colleges, organisations with an interest in education as well as international universities from Middle East, Asia, Canada, South Africa, Germany and Sweden.
Regional fairs will be held around the country, with Mombasa hosting on March 18-19, Embu on March 23-24, Kisumu on March 30-31 and Eldoret on April 2-3.
