Motorists and pedestrians fatally injured on Northern Cape roads over the easter weekend

Kimberly police are investigating a case of culpable homicide subsequent to the accident which claimed the lives of a mother and her toddler on Schmidsroad in Kimberley. At this stage the investigation is on-going to determine the exact cause of the accident. The accident involved a white Polo Classic and a red Polo Vivo GT.

A 36-year-old mother and her 1-year-old who were the passengers of the white Polo were certified dead on the scene, while the driver was transported to the local hospital to receive medical treatment.

The driver of the red Polo Vivo GT and his two occupants were transported to the local hospital to receive medical treatment. A jaws of live was used to rescue trapped passenger from the wreckages.

In another road accidents where motorists and a pedestrian’s lives were also claimed in separate road accidents across the Northern Cape over the Northern Cape include;

A 19-year-old man was killed when the vehicle in which he was travelling in on N1 near Hanover overturned, when the driver was apparently swerving for a stray goat that which was roaming on the road.

A 2-year-old boy also lost his life when a BMW overturned on N1 near Hanover. The father of the deceased together with other two occupants were transported to the local hospital to receive medical treatment.

In Norvalspont the police are investigating two cases of culpable homicide after two passengers aged 19 and 7 were killed when an Opel Corsa in which they travelling in experienced a tyre bust and overturned. A 62-year-old man who was the driver was transported to the hospital subsequent to the accident.

Mothibistad police are also investigating a case of culpable homicide after two men were killed during a head-on collision. A 56 and 40- year-old men were declared dead on the scene after the accident.

Two persons were also fatally injured following a head on collision on R359 just outside Augrabies. The accident involved Opel Monza and Isuzu bakkie. The driver of Opel and his passenger aged 65 and 47 were declared dead on the scene.

In Hartswater a 37-year-old woman was hit by a vehicle. The driver was charged with culpable homicide.

We are appealing to the communities to help with the information that could lead to the arrest of a motorist who drove over a pedestrian and sped-off from the scene after the accident. It is alleged that a 35-year-old woman was crossing the road near Kakamas when she was hit by a Polo with GP registration number plates.

The suspect is urged to hand himself to the nearest police station, because we have launched his hunt to bring him to book, to come and account for the crime he committed.
