Murder suspect granted bail at Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court

POTCHEFSTROOM – A 36-year-old, Molefe Motsie, was granted R1000-00 bail by Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 April 2021, in connection with the alleged murder of his friend.

Motsie’s court appearance stems from his apprehension on Saturday, 17 April 2021, after he allegedly stabbed his 30-year-old friend with a knife. It is alleged that a quarrel ensued between Motsie and a third friend which precipitated to a physical fight. Regrettably, the victim tried to intervene and break the fight, but he was stabbed by the suspect with a knife. The victim was transported to a local clinic in Mmabatho, but was certified dead on arrival. Motsie was arrested and charged with murder. Motsie is expected to re-appear before the same court on Friday, 7 May 2021 for further investigation.

The District Commissioner of Ngaka Modiri Molema Distric, Major General Molewa, condemned the incident and urged members of the public to stop using violence and solve their differences amicably. Major General Mmatlhapi Mmolawa congratulated Mmabatho detectives for acting swiftly and arrested the suspect.
