MyCiTi brings festive cheer

The 2019 festive season is here and MyCiTi has made special arrangements to suit the needs of residents and visitors over this period. The City of Cape Town is encouraging holiday makers to take advantage of the longer bus operating hours and additional routes which have been put in place specifically for the holiday period.

‘The MyCiTi festive season schedule and routes that have been arranged will allow for commuters to enjoy even longer days at the beach; late night shopping and socialising over the holidays. We want everyone to get the most out of their days over this festive period by spending less time in the car and more time exploring. Aside from the convenience, I find that travelling with public transport allows one to experience the journey and the views even more,’ says the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase.

Cape Town has so much to offer for both tourists and residents alike. This year, MyCiTi has taken a fresh new look at Cape Town and highlighted a list of hidden gems which are all accessible by using MyCiTi. To view the complete list, visit the official MyCiTi website.

Residents from Atlantis and surrounding areas can look forward to the special holiday service between Atlantis and Silverstroomstrand again, where they can enjoy a fun day at the award-winning blue flag beach at Silverstroomstrand. Route 247 Silwerstroomstrand will operate on weekends and public holidays until 5 January 2020.

As of today, 13 December 2019, there will be a new free holiday shuttle service within the Waterfront precinct. The shuttle service will serve the Waterfront; Breakwater; Nobel Square; Aquarium; Marina and Amsterdam MyCiTi bus stops. Passengers are to look out for the route 104 and 113 numbers on the electronic displays in front

or the free shuttle sign on the special Waterfront holiday shuttle buses.

Those residents who are working through the holiday period are advised to familiarise themselves with the timetable changes. Services will be reduced on some routes during the morning and afternoon weekday peak due to fewer people travelling to work.

A festive season activity map has been created to help residents and visitors explore Cape Town’s most famous tourist and leisure destinations and to plan real adventures around the city. The journey planner on the new official MyCiTi app will be of great use to holiday makers as it provides suggestions on which routes and buses to take and provides live updates that show when the buses are due to arrive. The free MyCiTi app is available from iOS and Google Play stores.

Other exciting highlights include the free Table Mountain shuttle which starts running from Monday, 16 December until 12 January and will operate every ten minutes from 9:00 until 13:00 every day. Late-night shopping services are also being extended on routes linking to the V&A Waterfront and Canal Walk to cater for extended mall hours until 24 December 2019. Extra buses will be available on weekends and public holidays throughout the season.

To end the year off on a high note, MyCiTi will be helping holiday makers celebrate New Year’s Eve with a special late night New Year’s Eve service between the Waterfront and Table View; Dunoon and Melkbosstrand areas.
