Windhoek: Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa - Amadhila on Wednesday launched the National Anti - Corruption Strategy and Action Plan annual report for the 2023 / 24 financial year . The plan is aimed at promoting integrity , transparency , accountability and ethical conduct in civil society , private and public sectors . In a speech delivered on her behalf by Deputy Prime Minister John Mutorwa , Kuugongelwa - Amadhila said the strategy helps to close loopholes that allow corrupt practices . She indicated that the strategy compromises of eight strategic objectives guiding 95 actions involving 44 leading institutions . So far , 87 of the 95 actions , or 92 per cent , have been implemented . ' The achievements demonstrate our collective determination to combat corruption and promote integrity in our society ,' she said . She noted that Namibia continues to have low levels of corruption , ranking eighth out of 54 countries in the 2022 Mo Ibrahim Inde . The 2022 Transparency International Corruption Perception Inde x placed Namibia 59th out of 180 countries globally , with a score of 49 out of 100 . In the 2023 Corruption Perception Index by Transparency International , Namibia was placed 59th out of 180 countries , placing the country fourth in the Southern African Development Community ( SADC ). ' Though commendable , Namibia ' s rankings show that it is necessary to fully implement the national strategy to further improve the current rankings ,' Kuugongelwa - Amadhila said . Also speaking at the event was Anti - Corruption Commission Director - General Paulus Noa , who said the strategy provides for monitoring and evaluation mechanisms that ensure the implementation of the blueprint . He noted that a lack of effectiveness in monitoring amounts to a waste of public resources . ' Together , we have the responsibility to uphold this mandate and work tirelessly towards zero tolerance for corruption in Namibia ,' he added . Kuugongelwa - Amadhila urged all stakeholders to take ownership of the strategy and to work collabo ratively and with integrity . Source: The Namibia News Agency
