Bushbuckridge: Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, has launched National Wills Week in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga. This initiative aims to educate the public on the importance of having a valid will and offers assistance in drafting one.

According to South African Government News Agency, the campaign is part of broader government efforts to improve access to justice, particularly for communities that may not have access to private legal assistance. The initiative also raises awareness of available legal services and promotes access to support from legal practitioners.

Minister Kubayi emphasized the importance of having a will, stating that it ensures the protection of one's children and assets after passing. She highlighted that even individuals with modest assets, like an RDP house, should consider drafting a will to prevent potential family disputes and to safeguard their children's future.

Despite cultural sensitivities surrounding discussions of death, Kubayi urged people to confront these issues to protect their loved ones. She noted that having a will is crucial, even for public servants and those in polygamous marriages, to ensure fair distribution of assets and care for multiple family members.

The department announced that service desks will be established at Master of the High Court offices across all provinces, supported by legal practitioners and private-practice attorneys. These desks will provide free assistance to the public, ensuring that estates are administered in accordance with their wishes after death. This initiative also highlights the role of the Master of the High Court in managing deceased estates.
