The National Energy Regulator of South Africa has extended the Gauteng leg of its public hearings into Eskom’s Regulatory Clearing Account (RCA) to next week.
In a statement on Wednesday, the regulator announced the extension by a day of the public hearings that were originally only meant to be taking place in Gauteng on Friday.
Nersa decided to extend the public hearing due to the large number of registrants to present at the hearing in Gauteng, it said.
Friday’s public hearing will take place at Walter Sisulu Square at the corner of Klipspruit Valley Road and Union Road in Kliptown, Pimville Zone 9 in Soweto.
The extended public hearings will take place at Midrand’s Gallagher Convention Centre on Monday.
The public hearings into the power utility’s Regulatory Clearing Account applications for financial years 2014/15 to 2016/17 from 16 April to 11 May 2018 kicked-off at the Cape Town ICC on 16 April.
The RCA is a monitoring and tracking mechanism that compares certain uncontrollable costs and revenues assumed in the multi-year price determination (MYPD) decision (made by Nersa) to actual costs and revenues incurred by Eskom.
At the start of the countrywide hearings, Eskom presented its case to recover costs already spent in the provision of electricity totalling R66.6 billion, while allaying fears that this application would lead to a 30% tariff increase.
