News: Four suspects arrested in Browns Farm, Nyanga

WESTERN CAPE Due to the diligent and consistent efforts of our members, several suspects have been arrested for offences in the area of Browns Farm, Nyanga.

Three suspects were apprehended yesterday (2020-01-28) during a tracing operation conducted in the area by members of the Nyanga Serious and Violent Crimes Unit. The suspects, aged between 19 and 24 are linked to a case of murder which occurred on Sunday (2020-01-26) at approximately 17:50 at a spaza shop in Bristol Road, Browns Farm. The deceased, a 60 year old man, was shot and then taken to a medical facility for treatment, however he later succumbed to death due to his injuries. In addition, one of the three suspects is also linked to two separate cases, a murder where a 25 year old was stabbed multiple times on New Year’s Day (2020-01-01) in Makhosi Street, Browns Farm, and an attempted murder where a foreign national shop owner was shot and injured during a business robbery in Hobohobo Street, Browns Farm where five unknown suspects allegedly robbed an undisclosed amount of cash, airtime machine and cellular telephones. The victim was transported to a nearby healthcare facility for treatment and remains in a critical condition.

All three suspects are due at the Athlone Magistrates Court tomorrow (2020-01-30) facing charges of murder, attempted murder, business robbery and possession of stolen property.

In an unrelated incident, a 26 year old female suspect was also arrested during the same operation for dealing in drugs. Members were following up on information received when they approached the suspect at a residence in Browns Farm for questioning. They noticed a bag with suspicious items which was searched and several items were confiscated which included: Mandrax tablets, Tik and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect was arrested and is appearing at the Philippi Magistrates Court today for dealing in drugs.
