PARKTOWN – The Provincial Commissioner of police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela lauded the members, officers from other law enforcement agencies and security guards for their quick-witted action in recovering multiple stolen car parts during an intelligence-driven operation.

Gauteng Highway Patrol in collaboration with Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) and security guards from Brinant Security arrested a man found in possession of a stolen vehicle and car parts with an estimated value of R1.2-million in the industrial area of Boksburg North yesterday, 10 February 2022.

According to a preliminary report police received information that a truck containing car parts had been stolen from a vehicle manufacturing plant in Silverton earlier that day. The information was swiftly operationalised which led the multi-disciplinary team to an identified spares shop in Boksburg North; allegedly where the car parts were going to be off loaded.

On arrival at the address, a number of suspects fled the scene and managed to evade arrest. The owner of the spares shop was interviewed and a search was conducted which led the team to recover multiple stolen car parts which included gearboxes; stamped exels; dashboards; centre consoles; steering racks; bumpers; door panels; aircon pumps; wheel arches and clutch cables. Representative from the vehicle manufacturing plant in Silverton was contacted who positively identified the stolen car parts as their property. The stolen truck was also recovered at the scene.

Police subsequently arrested the owner who now faces charges of possession of stolen property and vehicle and he is expected to appear in court soon.
