News: Man nabbed with five unlicensed firearms due in court

An integrated operation conducted by Durban Public Order Police and Greytown Crime Intelligence yielded positive results when they recovered five unlicensed firearms and a total of 573 assortment of ammunition.

The operation was conducted on 3 January 2020 at 03:00, at Sampofu area in Msinga, when the team received information about the suspect in possession of unlicensed firearms at Esidakeni area. The team went to the identified homestead where a search was conducted. Upon searching the house a total of five unlicensed firearms which includes three rifles, a pistol and a revolver were recovered.

A 33-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. He is expected to appear in the Msinga Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 6 January 2020.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the team for the recovery of unlicensed firearms and the arrest of the suspect. The eradication of illegal firearms will prevent crime from being committed, he said.
