PRETORIA – The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Khehla John Sitole has applauded the SAPS team in the Northern Cape for the arrest of a suspect in connection with a police constable who was found murdered in Lennertsville, Keimoes yesterday morning.

Constable Stephano Nico Visagie (28) was visiting a friend and apparently decided to stay over.

At 05:40 in the morning yesterday, 08 January 2020, Constable Visagie was found on the bed with at least one stab wound to the chest.

A team of investigators worked tirelessly on this case which led to the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect in Krugersdorp. The suspect is expected to be charged with at least one count of murder and he is expected to appear in Keimoes Magistate’s court no later than Monday, 14 January 2020.

Now that a suspect has been arrested, the two communities are urged to exercise tolerance and allow the investigation to take its course. People are also cautioned that no form of violence will be tolerated. Thus far at least 23 people have been arrested. Eight, that are minors, have been released while the other 15 are appearing in the Keimoes court today on a charge of public violence.
