News: Police attackers to appear in court

Two suspects aged 36 and 38 are set to appear at the Umlazi Magistrates Court today for possession of unlicensed firearm, attempted murder and discharging firearm in public. On 7 January 2019 at 22:30, Umlazi police officers were conducting crime prevention duties at V Section when they noticed two men discharging firearms in public.

The suspects spotted the police officers and a shootout ensued. One suspect sustained a gunshot wound on the right thigh and the second suspect was found hiding in a nearby house. The injured suspect was taken to hospital under police guard while the second suspect was detained at Umlazi police station. Two 38 special revolver with ammunition were recovered and will be subjected to ballistic testing to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the province.

Police are still busy with festive session operations in the province and criminals are warned that they cannot move freely as their activities are being monitored due to the high police visibly. We encourage communities to report such criminal behaviour immediately to their local police and not to allow criminals to move freely in their neighbourhoods.
