News: R1,5 million dagga bust nets two in Upington

KIMBERLEY – The Upington SAPS Crime Prevention and Crime Intelligence units followed up on information about drug trafficking on the N1 Road close to Upington.

On Wednesday, 19 February 2020 at approximately 7am the members spotted the blue Toyota Camry about 30km outside Upington. The vehicle was allegedly traveling from Lesotho en- route to Upington when police signaled them to pull over. The vehicle eventually stopped close to the Leerkrans area and both occupants fled into the veld. The police members pursued on foot and arrested both suspects minutes later.

The vehicle was searched and police found 200kg of dagga with an estimated street value of about R1, 5 Million stashed inside. Police also confiscated the vehicle as it was utilized in the commission of a crime.

‘The Acting Station Commander for Upington, Colonel Eve April commended the members for their dedication and vigilance and also thanked the community for their assistance that has led to this outstanding arrest. We will continue to turn the tide against crime and squeeze the space for criminals to operate in Upington and surrounding areas, said April.
