News: Sustained high-level crime combating interventions in Mamelodi yielding positive results

PARKTOWN – Police in Mamelodi continue to make inroads in the fight against the scourge of drugs. During operations conducted since the beginning of the Easter weekend, the Mamelodi Combat and Response Team arrested five suspects for dealing with and/or possession of drugs. One of the five suspects has also been charged with robbery after a complainant pointed out two suspects.

One suspect was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle; while police recovered a motor vehicle confirmed as stolen in Sunnyside in January this year. Three other vehicles were taken in for further testing.

The suspects will appear in court on Tuesday, 23 April 2019.

Meanwhile, Management of police in Mamelodi East and West, and Tshwane District, have reached a milestone in the resolution of the ongoing taxi feud where a certain group is accused of forcing taxi owners/operators to pay an undue monthly levy. Through police intervention, the executive committee of one taxi association sat this past week and agreed to some concessions which will be tabled to the broader forum of about 2000 owners/operators at a meeting that is planned to take place soon.

Management of police in the Province is pleased with the progress achieved since the beginning of March 2019. This has been made possible largely by the close collaboration between police and the community. Many residents have come forward with valuable information that has seen a number of suspects thrown behind bars.
